Dame Linda Dobbs QC

Dame Linda Dobbs QC

Dame Linda Dobbs was appointed to the High Court Bench in early autumn 2004. She was the first person from an ethnic minority to reach this level of the judiciary and is one of only 17 women in the High Court. So significant was her appointment that it was applauded in an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons on 13 September, 2004. Dame Linda started practising at the Bar in 1981. She became a QC in 1998. She has written and edited books and articles on a number of legal issues.

She spends most of her vacations in South Africa where she has a house. She is a patron of the South African Legal Education Fund a charity for students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds. She carries out pro-bono work in South Africa, African and other countries in the world.

Even though the demands on her time are great, she maintains an 'open door' policy and regularly receives visits from ethnic minority school children. She also mentors university students who spend time with her in court. She is committed to helping the young and disadvantaged both here and abroad.
