Urgent Appeal for School Renovations
Following a visit by the Chair of the Trustees to Sierra Leone, we are focused on two schools in the Western Area, Regent Rural Education Community Primary School in the hills above Freetown and Thomas Peters Primary School on Percival Street, Freetown. We have engineering drawings and specifications for repairs (roofs, ceilings, doors, windows, toilets, desks and chairs etc.) that are estimated to cost between £50,000 and £70,000 for the two schools. Both schools are in desperate need of renovation and their condition presents a constant threat to the students' health and safety–with poor toilet facilities, unsafe playgrounds, leaking roofs, insecure windows and doors. The damaged chairs and tables, dark classrooms are part of a dismal learning environment that we are desperately trying to improve for these young people.

Our contributions to the school do not stop at building works – we continue to send out learning materials and equipment and we are delighted to be adding a new dimension this year with the two volunteers who will be going out to work with the schools, one in January and one in June.

We have set a goal of raising £25,000 by May, 2010. You can help us to achieve this target by clicking on the "Make a Donation" link on this page or by sending a cheque made out to The Lottie Betts-Priddy Education Trust at P.O. Box 2549, Woodford Green, Essex IG8 1JW.

We will also be holding fundraising events this year and will keep you posted so you can support them, including the Trustees' Challenge, a slimathon and the Chair will host a Dinner Party for eight "high rollers!".
